Sorry if I Upset You... 2008/04/04 05:25 Karma: 0
Like the title says, I'm sorry if I upset you with what I am to say in this post, it's just that this kind of makes me mad and I want to state it on this forum...

Like everyone should know there are die hard Nirvana fans, then there are the fans that just like Smells Like Teen Spirit or heard of Kurt's death and searched for them on Youtube. I consider myself a fan, and I really hate it when others say they are a Nirvana and go on and on about Kurt's death.

If your really a fan, why would you care so much about his death?

"Kurt didn't shoot himself, Courtney shot him!"

Either way it happened, it happened. Music isn't the gossip about how Kurt left the world, it is about listening to it for entertainment or expressing yourself or both. Now I know we all would love to know how Kurt died, but we will never know and shouldn't we enjoy the music instead of wasting our time pointing our fingers at Courtney telling her she killed Kurt, or trying to convince everyone that Kurt killed himself.

I'm not no 'bot' here to tell everyone to lay off Courtney, I don't care to listen to Courtney, Hole, or whatever. I'm just here for it being a Nirvana fan site. To be honest; I to have thought about his death, but couldn't care less for it, other than it sucking every time I think about the music that could have been produced if he would have lived. I just like to believe he is in a better place and that he would have wanted us to enjoy the music and forget about him lying six feet under.

To end this, I just want to say that I hope I haven't upset anyone, I just wanted to state this here. If you do this, I don't hate you, I just hate the way you go around arguing about his death. I even have theories of his death, I just don't argue with others about why mine is right, no one knows for sure, we could all be wrong.

Hi Rocker380,
You are absolutely correct that what really matters in a person, or an entity, a band, a group of people, is what he/she/they create, what is left behind. Nirvana have left a heritage, and we can all be happy because we were lucky enough to have heard some wonderful songs.

On the other hand, anyone in the showbiz, is de facto, not just an artist or a politician, but a showman, in one way or another. That said, he gets some of his fame thanks to actions other than his actual work. You are right to distinguish between die-hard Nirvana fans and the people who just know Teen spirit or have heard Kurt might have committed suicide, on the other hand both Kurt and Nirvana owe some of their fame to the fact that, as Kurt wrote "they burned out rather than faded away", just in the same way that James Dean is a legendary figure after only two mediocre films or JFK is a legendary president due to the fact that he was shot and there are a million conspiracy theories as to who actually was behind it.

The point i am trying to make is that, although music itself is what matters, people who reach a "legend", near-god status in their lives, do so by riding on the back of rumors as well as their work. So, for someone whose very image is fed by gossip, it is absolutely normal to expect rumors and conspiracy theories to haunt this image, even after death

I know what you mean, I actually think this part of the forum will be very active. Look at the Beatles, all the oldies love them, but only music fans of today like them. They aren't known as much as the mainstream rap and all today. What Kurt did or what happened to him is what makes Nirvana a legend band, well helps it, they would be legends with him living or not. I think Nirvana would of ended even if Kurt had lived, and yes Foo Fighters would have still formed due to Nirvana's split-up.

So there is really nothing to feel bad about other than the way he left, which I am a bit anxious to see what they could have produced if he lived. The point is, he didn't, so we should enjoy the music they did produce rather than worrying about his death.

I agree with you completlely. Nirvana inspired me and realy changed my life. In many ways my life is similar to Kurts so even if he did chose to leave this fucked up world by suicide I can understand why. Im only sorry that he didnt live on and make more fantastic songs. I apologise if I misspelled some words, im writting all the way across the Atlantic Ocean and then some
